PRINCIPALS REPORT
School Mass
As has been previously communicated, we have our School Parish Mass this Sunday at 8.30am. We look forward to seeing families attend - the support for children reading and taking on roles has been greatly appreciated.
Street Stall - Trivia Raffle
Tomorrow our School Community Council, together with our SRC and student leaders, will be running a street stall outside the IGA. for our trivia night raffle. If anyone is available to help on the day please contact Sam or pop down to the stall. Details of the great prizes on offer can be found in this newsletter. Tickets will be available at the stall tomorrow or from the school office in the lead-up to the night.
Trivia Night
Our School Community Council Trivia Night is fast approaching on Saturday, 20th September – doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. It’s not too late to book a table! We’ve already had a wonderful response and are looking forward to gathering together for what promises to be a terrific evening. A special thank you to Tracee, Kerrie and the Community Council team for their efforts in bringing this night to life.
Lawn Bowls
For the remainder of the term, our students have the chance to try something a little different—lawn bowls on the actual bowling greens! A big thank you to Garry Hamilton, John Quarmby and Wendy Butler from the Batlow Bowling Club for making this happen and giving their time to teach and encourage our students. There has been plenty of fun each Tuesday afternoon - with some of our staff also giving it a go! Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s Tumut Adelong Times where this wonderful community connection will be featured.
I want to once again acknowledge the students for their genuine effort throughout the term. I am truly proud of their achievements. I want to also reiterate my gratitude for the work of staff and families in contributing to the school’s mission of ‘nurturing, educating and inspiring our students to learn with confidence and lead with compassion.’
Enjoy the remainder of the week,
Ryan
FROM THE REC
Children’s Mass
Just a reminder that Mass is hosted by students of St Mary’s this Sunday at 8:30 am. Thank you to those who have volunteered to participate. We appreciate your involvement! All families are welcome to come and join us this Sunday.
The Feast of St Mary, Monday 8th September
On Monday, we celebrated the Feast of St Mary with a whole school liturgy led by Year 3/4. This was a time for us to thank St Mary for her love and guidance. Seeing with Mary’s eyes helps us to walk in peace and understanding. Pope Leo stresses that Mary continues to open doors, build bridges, tear down walls, and help humanity live in harmony amid diversity.
‘Mary, explained Pope Leo, is a “jubilee woman” because she always begins anew from listening to the Word of God. She does so with the attitude described by St. Augustine in Book X of the Confessions—not by expecting a desired answer, but by choosing to desire what she hears from God. Like Mary, the Church must never grow weary of engaging in dialogue with God or of asking difficult, even unsettling questions—as Mary did at the Annunciation: “How will this come about?” (Pope Leo 2025)
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

CHILD SAFE ADVOCATE
Today ( Thursday 11 September) is R U Ok? Day but we know that whether it’s a friend, family member, partner, or colleague, the people around us go through lifes ups and downs every day. Thats why we need the confidence to ask R U OK? Any Day.
It’s natural to feel a little hesitant, but the good news is nine in ten Australians report feeling grateful, supported and cared for when someone genuinely asks them if they're OK - and that’s a good reason to give it a go. You might even be having these conversations already without realising.
It all starts with a conversation, and that conversation could change a life. Today at school our students learnt the 4 steps to having a meaningful conversation, but you may wish to talk further with your children about this. The four steps are listed below.
- Ask R U OK?
- Listen
- Encourage action
- Check in
When we genuinely ask, ‘Are you OK?’ and are prepared to talk to them about how they’re feeling and what’s going on in their life, we can help someone who might be struggling feel connected and supported, long before they’re in crisis.
You don’t need to be an expert to ask someone, ‘Are you OK?’. Try and make time for regular chats about life’s ups and downs so you can build trust. That way, when someone is struggling, they’ll know you care and will feel comfortable opening up to you.
It also helps to choose the right time and place for a meaningful conversation.
- On breaks from work or study
- When exercising together
- When connecting or doing activities together online
- When you’re spending time together socially
- When you’re doing an activity side-by-side
- When you’re sharing a meal
- When you’re travelling together, even a short trip can be a good time to talk.
