Gratitude
Families may have noticed the emphasis I have placed on bringing our school vision to life through our interactions with one another and the manner we engage with school activities. We can all contribute to “nurturing, educating and inspiring our students to learn with confidence and lead with compassion” but the fruits of this effort is seen in our students.
This term, I have been immensely proud of our students on a number of fronts:
- Public speaking in front of our peers can be a daunting experience, let alone speaking with/against the best public speakers in the Western Region. Jack and Phil should both be very proud of themselves for representing our school at the Western Region Public Speaking Competition last week. Hopefully this paves the way for more of our students in years to come.
- Our entire Year 5/6 group hosted the St Mary’s Mini Olympics on Tuesday. They spoke so confidently, encouraged all of our students and showed what a fantastic group of leaders we have this year.
- Students completing our MiniLit program came and showed me their cumulative review results on Tuesday of this week. All five students had a marked improvement on their previous results - it was so great to see their faces beaming as they shared their learning. It comes as no surprise that, with the encouragement and support of our staff, their focus and confidence has noticeably improved over the past few weeks also.
These are simply a few examples of the impact of having this vision at the forefront of what we do. Thank you to our staff and families who contribute to this focus.
Tell Them From Me Survey
Thank you to those families who have contributed to this survey. As mentioned, the Tell Them From Me survey is an anonymous survey that will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership and further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Mary’s.
I would really appreciate some more families contributing to this survey to ensure we hear the thoughts of a variety of our families: http://tellthemfromme.com/smb

The Feast of the Assumption of Mary
Today, Catholics and many other Christians celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This significant feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God.
Today we celebrated this very special day with a whole school Mass, lead by our Year 5 and 6 students.
Last Friday Mr Forsyth and I attended an important day for all school leaders in Canberra. This day was hosted by Archbishop Prowse and Mr Ross Fox the Director of education. It was a day for all leaders to come together to discuss the direction and future of Catholic Education in our schools. The Keynote speakers provided a valuable insight for all leaders about our purpose and vision for Catholic Schooling in the Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese.
I would like to close with a prayer for Mary our Mother.
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
