A reminder to all families that staff will be participating in various professional learning opportunities on Friday 27th September. This means that the last day of Term Three for our students will be Thursday 26th September.
Online Safety Issues - Parent Resources
The attached link (click here) is a direct link to downloadable resources from the eSafety commissioner to help you start the chat about online safety issues and strategies with your child. I implore parents to take a look at these resources that come as videos, audio files, downloadables relating to: gaming advice, managing devices and apps, conversation starters and information about digital technologies and mental health.
School Uniform - Weather
Despite a bit of rain this afternoon, the days are certainly getting longer and warmer. I want to encourage families to ensure their child is bringing their hat to school and that uniform (particularly jumpers) are clearly labelled. I will keep everyone informed about Summer uniform. There will be a transition period where students will get the choice of wearing Summer or Winter uniform.
Attendance
Student attendance at school is a legal obligation and while students have appointments, parents arebeing responsible by keeping their child home when they are unwell and there are circumstances that help ‘tell the story’ of a child’s attendance, it is still important that students are regularly attending. When a child misses school, they miss important opportunities to learn, build connections with their peers, develop new skills and independence. If your child’s attendance for the term is in the Chronic Absenteeism catergory (refer to the table below), correspondence regarding this will be sent home. The important message to this correspondence is that we are here to support you if needed.
Enjoy the remainder of the week,
Ryan
A huge thank you to all the families and students who attended our Parish Mass on Sunday. The students should be congratulated for their wonderful leadership of the Mass. After mass, the students and their families enjoyed a bacon and egg breakfast. Thanks to Mr Forsyth and Mr Flenley for cooking breakfast for everyone!
Pope Francis has recently been visiting the Asia-Pacific region, he visited Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Indonesia and Singapore. His visit was significant to these areas and the Pope attended many events during his time.
Cardinal Virgilio do Carma da Silva, Archbishop of Dili, commented that;
'Even though we are small as a country, we have something unique, and that is our Catholic faith.'
More than six hundred thousand people gathered in Timor-Leste for the Papal Mass. Cardinal da Silva commented;
“When all young people and children continue to cultivate in their hearts this attitude of respect for others it will be a big step for us and will make a difference, especially after the Pope's visit.”
A Prayer for Pope Francis
Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to Your shepherd, the Pope, a spirit of courage and right judgement, a spirit of knowledge and love.
By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care may he, as successor to the apostle Peter and vicar of Christ, build Your church into a sacrament of unity, love, and peace for all the world.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
God Bless
Jeanette Dumbrell
