It is hard to fathom that next week we welcome December! The year has passed us by very quickly and we look forward to celebrating the year at some of the following events. As our term draws to a close, we are continuing to encourage students to finish well and we would appreciate student attendance still being a priority up until our final day on Tuesday 17th December.
End of Year Events
Carols by Candlelight: Next Thursday 5th December at 6pm, St Mary’s students will be performing at the Annual Batlow Carols by Candlelight Evening. Carols will commence at 6pm at Hides Park Pioneer Street. While students may not sing until later in the evening, it would be appreciated if they could be there at 5.50pm so that we can gather, sit as a school and be ready for our turn to sing. Students are to wear their full Summer uniform. If they would like, they can wear a Christmas hat to accompany their uniform.
End of Year Awards: On Monday 9th December at 6pm, St Mary’s will be hosting our annual awards evening at the Batlow Literary Institute. We would love for all students and families to be there to help celebrate our student and school achievements from 2024. Students are to wear their full Summer uniform. Part of this evening will involve our students performing a short Nativity play - any required costume has been organised by the school and will go over their uniforms. We ask that students arrive by 5:50pm to ensure we start on time.
Graduation and Thanksgiving Mass: On Thursday 12th December at 12pm, St Mary’s will host students and families for their Graduation and Thanksgiving Mass. All families are welcome to attend this special celebration, where we acknowledge our departing Year Six student.
School Reports
As mentioned last week, student reports will be sent home via the Compass portal on Friday 13th December. Parents will be given the opportunity to meet with staff members to discuss these reports in the following week. Due to the fact that this will only be a one day allocation and there will be a limited amount of times available, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and organise a meeting if you require a different timeslot. Please keep an eye out for the Compass invite or further details in Week 9.
Enjoy the weekend families,
Ryan
This Sunday, the 1st of December marks the beginning of the season of Advent in the Catholic Church.
Advent is a time where we anticipate and prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It encompasses the four Sundays and weekdays leading up to the celebration of Christmas.
We celebrate Advent by putting up an Advent wreath and placing a candle each week.
The 4 candles represent hope, faith, joy and peace. Lighting the candles on the wreath symbolises the coming of light (Jesus) into the world.
Christmas hamper appeal
Our baskets are starting to fill up and I thank families for their generous contributions so far. I will be happy to accept donations right up until Thursday morning (12 Dec) so that we may gift St Vincent De Paul our baskets after Mass.
A special week ahead.
Have a blessed week everyone.
