Growth can come in so many forms. Physical growth (something that we certainly see over the course of a school year), academic growth, growth in maturity, spiritual growth to name a few. With all the events that happen throughout a school term, it is always easy to blink and realise that the holidays are upon us…and then before too long, the year has gone!
I want to encourage families (and our staff!) to take the time to look back on the growth of your children and celebrate the special milestones that are achieved throughout each term. Our school staff are in such a privileged position - being able to contribute to and see these important moments and they shouldn’t be understated or downplayed. Keep up the great work St Mary’s students - we are all so proud!
Western Region Swimming Carnival
On Monday, students travelled to Tumut to participate in the Western Region Swimming Carnival. As you may have already seen on our Facebook page, we are extremely proud of these kids, not only for their participation and effort as individuals but their support for one another. Congratulations to our small schools relay team who have qualified for the Mackillop Carnival later this term (1st and 2nd April). Thank you to the families that supported us with travel and assistance on the day.
Seconds Uniforms
I just wanted to reach out and say thank you to the families that have been donating the school uniforms that their children have outgrown. This is a fantastic way of supporting families with the cost of uniforms and a great reminder not to throw out any of these uniforms if they are still in decent condition - particularly heading into the upcoming colder months.
Parent Teacher Conferences/Interviews
We will hold Parent Teacher Conferences in Week 6 of this term (the week commencing on Monday 10th March). Early next week, parents will be notified of available times through Compass. If any of these times don’t suit, I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher and arrange an alternative time. The conferences are a great opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher and discuss your child’s start to the school year, possible learning goals, look through personalised plans and raise any questions that you have as a parent. We really value the school/parent partnership and hope that families take up this opportunity to meet.

Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Tuesday)
Next Tuesday, 4th March will be Shrove Tuesday - the Tuesday before Lent begins where traditionally Chrisitan families would empty their fridges of rich foods (eggs, milk and sugar) in preparation for 40 days of fasting. A tradition that has altered over the generations but is still acknowledged in households all over the world.
Miss Collins and Yr 5/6 will be helping to prepare pancakes for all students to enjoy at recess.
Ash Wednesday
Next Wednesday, 5th March will mark the beginning of the season of Lent with an Ash Wednesday Mass in our St Mary’s church. Our Year 5/6 students will be leading this Mass with Fr Joe.
Our community is invited to join us at 12:15pm.
Lent
The season of Lent lasts 40 days to represent the amount of time Jesus spent in the desert — fasting and preparing for his ministry — and to remember this, many Christians choose to make a promise of their own over those 40 days. Luxuries like dessert or chocolate are commonly given up for Lent, or Christians may perform acts of kindness for others through volunteer work throughout the Lenten season, right up until Easter Sunday and beyond. What will you do more or less of this Lent?
I hope you all have a wonderful and restful weekend!
