Last weekend we were blessed to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with Mackenzie and Theo in Tumut. This was a very special occasion for them, their families, and our school community, as they were strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
As part of recognising this milestone, it is fitting to reflect on the example of the saints, whose lives inspire us to live with courage and faith. One such example is Saint Maximilian Kolbe. He was a Polish priest who, during World War II, offered his life in place of another prisoner in a concentration camp. His selfless act of love reminds us that we can learn a lot from selfless acts and having compassion for others, even in the most difficult times. May Mackenzie and Theo, and all of us, be inspired by the saints to live with generosity, courage, and love in our daily lives.
Father’s Day Breakfast
Next Friday, 5th September, we will host a Father’s Day Breakfast. This special occasion is not only for fathers, but also for male role models, grandparents, and the special women who lovingly take on these important roles within families. It is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to gather together, enjoy a shared meal, and celebrate the gift of family. Breakfast will be served from 7:30am, and supervision for students will also be available from this time. Families are welcome to join us for a quick bite before heading off to work, or to stay a little longer and enjoy a conversation with others in our community.

Mortimer Shield Update
As families are aware, the Mortimer Shield was postponed from today and will now take place on Thursday 4th September in Gundagai. The Compass permission already given will remain valid for this new date. If this change affects your child’s attendance, please contact the office.
We also ask families who had offered transport (including for their own children) to please confirm with the office whether this arrangement still stands for next week or if alternate arrangements need to be made. Thank you for your support and flexibility.
Community Council Street Stall
The School Community Council will be holding street stalls outside IGA tomorrow and again on Friday 12th September. Weather permitting, our Student Representative Council and senior students will be lending a hand. We encourage families to come along, say hello, and show your support. If you would like to assist with the stalls, please contact Sam Flenley for more details.

Mary is honoured around the world as the ‘Mother of God’, she was a gift from God to bear the child who would bring peace to the world and did so humbly, living a life free from sin.
The 8th of September is known as the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or otherwise known as the day of Mary’s birth. Therefore we celebrate her for the joy she was to bring to the world by giving birth to Jesus.
To celebrate, a Liturgy hosted by the Year 3/4 students will be celebrated at school on Monday.

BOOK WEEK
Thank you to all the families for your support of our Book Week celebrations. It was lovely to have so many families join is for the parade in the morning.
A big THANK YOU to all the families for creating such wonderful costumes. The students looked amazing and enjoyed talking about their chosen book character.
After the parade the students participated in a range of book themed activities - including creating book marks, a book puzzle scavenger hunt, reading a shortlisted book 'Spiro' and decorating biscuits. It was a fabulous day.
We are continuing to read and unpack the CBCA shortlisted books in Library this term and discuss the features that made them contenders to be nominated for the book of the year.
Students in Years 3-6 also enjoyed an excursion to the Batlow Library for Book Week. They enjoyed the Escape Room activities and finding the treasure. An engaging afternoon of problem solving and learning about the different sections of the Library along the way. Thank you to Sarah and Robert for the invitation and organisation of the event.
Regular Attendance at School is Vital!
- Did you know that research has shown that children lose out when they are chronically absent from school ( that is, they miss nearly a month of school over the school year).
- Going to school in the early years of school is especially critical to ensure a strong foundation.
- Chronic absenteeism in the early years of schooling is associated with difficulty in reading and comprehension, which will affect all aspects of a child's schooling.
- If families are planning on being away for an extended period of time, this must be communicated with the school and approved by the school Principal. The CECG Policy states:
“ Planned absences of more than 25 school days (including 25 part-days) in a twelve-month period
period for reasons other than sick leave (S) require prior consideration and approval, or they
will be considered unapproved/unjustified absences (in line with a school’s discretion
regarding any absence in paragraphs 4.6 - 4.7). This ensures that extended absences do not breach
legal obligations for students to attend school or undermine a student’s education.”
- The figures below are the CECG outlines for attendance in our Archdiocese schools. Frequent absences are detrimental to a child's education, and schools must follow up with families regarding frequent absences.

Parish Officer – Part Time Position Tumut Mission (Tumut, Gundagai, Adelong and Batlow Parishes)
People are invited to apply for the position of Parish Officer Tumut Mission. This is a permanent part-time position of 12-15 hours per week and will be based in the Parish Office, Tumut. There may be some travel between parishes when required.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience with database packages & Microsoft Suite
- Strong communication and liaison skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to work on your own, as part of a team, and take direction
- Understand and administer areas of church and regulatory compliance (eg. Parish sacrament registers, Working With Vulnerable People, WHS, child protection, copyright)
- Understanding and respect for the Catholic Church and its teaching
- Current experience in an office environment.
Employment conditions are subject to Clerks Award.
