Vinnies winter appeal
Thank you to all of our families who donated and participated in our Winter appeal today. Everyone looked warm and cosy in their pyjamas, and the toasted sandwiches and hot chocolates went down a treat! All funds raised will go towards buying gift cards to donate to St Vinnies for families in need. All donated goods will be taken to the store to be distributed to those in our community who may need a little extra help this winter.
Next week, Years 3 to 6 will depart on their school excursion to Sydney. We are all looking forward to what will be a fun-filled 3 days.
This weekend is a special Parish and School Mass, as some of our students will be celebrating their Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. All families are invited to attend and be a part of this Mass at 5 pm on Sunday.
The theme for this Sunday’s Mass is related to the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000.
As Jesus came ashore, he saw the large crowd. So, taking pity on them, He taught them many things because “They were like sheep without a shepherd”.
As evening approached, the people grew hungry. Jesus said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” Philip replied, “Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little”. Jesus then told his disciples to bring to him whatever food was available. It amounted to five barley loaves and two small fish carried by one small boy.
Taking the food, Jesus looked to Heaven, gave thanks and returned it to his disciples to serve the people. The five thousand ate until they were satisfied, and after they had finished, twelve large wicker baskets of scraps were collected.
This is a wonderful story of hope and sharing. This is a story that reminds us of the satisfaction we can all feel when we help others and care for those in need. I would like to finish with a prayer that reflects this theme.
Lord Jesus:
I give you my hands to do your work
I give you my feet to go your way
I give you my eyes to see as you do
I give you my tongue to speak your words
I give you my mind that you may think in me
I give you my spirit that you may pray in me
Above all:
I give you my heart that you may love in me,
Your Father and all mankind.
I give you my whole self that you may grow in me,
So that it is you, Lord Jesus,
who live and work and pray in me.
Amen
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
