As we journey further into Term Four, we continue to regularly practise gratitude with our students…openly looking for and sharing moments, little moments that bring joy, and of course, bringing joy to others by words and actions (no matter how small) that lift each other up. Hugh van Cuylenburg, founder of The Resilience Project, emphasises the profound benefits of practising gratitude daily. Studies show that gratitude improves mental health, enhances well-being, and strengthens resilience, especially in young people. By integrating gratitude into our school culture, we not only encourage students to appreciate their blessings but also equip them with tools for lifelong emotional and spiritual growth.
Stage 2 Excursion
Earlier this week, our Year Three and Four students had the opportunity to attend Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre for their overnight camp. There were lots of great activities that were posted on the Facebook page. It was wonderful to see our students venture outside their comfort zone and engage so positively with one another during this experience. Thank you to Ms Jackson and Mrs Ferguson for the time and energy that went into coordinating this camp!
Mass and Working Bee
We are very excited to see that the warmer weather and longer days are now upon us. I feel this presents an opportunity to have our working bee that was originally planned for Term Three. On Sunday 10th November, after our Children’s Mass, we invite families to join us for a BBQ breakfast, followed by a working bee. Jobs will include, setting up our veggie gardens, planting trees, re-planting shrubs/our hedge, hanging a notice board, among other things. We would love to see you there - many hands make light work!
Learning Journey
This coming Tuesday, we look forward to having parents attend school in the morning or afternoon (don’t hesitate to ask if you can’t come in at these times but want to see some student learning - we may be able to arrange something). As previously mentioned, this isn’t a parent - teacher conference but more so an opportunity for students to share their learning with family members.
Reading
I am very keen to continue our focus on reading, particularly at home. As previously mentioned, Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn (CECG) has been very vocal about our number one system goal of ‘every child being a competent reader’. In doing so, schools are implementing research-informed programs that help address this need and we want your support as parents/guardians on this journey. Whether it be reading with, reading to or simply encouraging daily reading at home, this goes a long way to supporting St Mary’s students to be better readers, and therefore, better learners.
Kindergarten Orientation
I wanted to remind families about our upcoming Kindergarten Orientation Days. Families have been emailed relevant information about this day but if there are any further questions, or you know of other families wanting to check out our great school, please reach out to myself, Mrs Dumbrell or our office staff.
Kindergarten Orientation Dates:
Week 1: Friday 1st November
Week 2: Friday 8th November
Week 3: Friday 15th November
Week 4: Friday 22nd November
Have a great finish to the week - I look forward to seeing people at our upcoming events!
